Rule and Lily are engaged and have just returned to San Diego with Toby. Lupi don't get married so their decision is not as welcome by all concerned. Lily is ready to scream with her mother charging into the preparations and Lily still reluctant to have it all going forward since she is still processing this decision.

But then an attempted murder by magical means distracts her and Rule. They learn quickly that the attack is an act of revenge by an old powerful being against Lily's family. Her grandmother's past actions now have bearing on the present. Lily works the case and discovers who and what she is up against along with more about her own connection to dragon magic.

This one was a blend of mystery and paranormal as usual, but there is a lot of background and new reveals to water down the action so it is parts action and parts slow paced development time. I was not bored. The new Chimea being, more on dragons, Grandmother's history- all to the good. The reveals were interesting and I can't wait to see how that changes future stories. It was also interesting to see Lily process the decision to be married. Being Lily, she is full of questions and needing answers.

Again, I enjoyed the split narrations of Lily, Rule, and others. It was fun to get time with Rule's clan, Lily's grandmother and family along with extra Cynna and Cullen time.

My only niggle was the feeling that the end was rushed a tad leaving some things hanging though maybe that was on purpose.

All in all, this was an engaging installment. I'm into the current story when I'm reading it and then want the next one in hand. Love the series and recommend it easily to Urban Fantasy fans.

I love Lily and Rule and the whole world that Eileen has created. I admit I have a thing for shifters and this series does not disappoint.

In this installment we get to see the consequences of Rule breaking the Lupi rule of never marrying and dealing with people that think him and Lily are doing a terrible mistake.

We also got to learn more about Grandmother and that was pretty awesome! She is my favorite character in the series, she is strong, loyal, hilarious and a complete mystery. We get to solve much of that mystery in this book and I loved it.

It was great to see everyone again, Cullen, Cynna, Sam and everyone else. Eileen does such a great job with the secondary characters that you can't help but love them all.

The great mystery and villain in this novel are both connected with Grandmother's past and its a doozy. It was great to get some flashback scenes and see some of her past too =)

I'm trying to keep spoilers to a minimum here LOL, but I have to say that I really enjoyed the book and it was great to see Rule and Lily again. This wasn't my favorite in the series, but it was far from the worst. It was a great read with a lot of action that kept me at the edge and made me read it in one sitting =)

The only thing I missed was some lovin' between Lily and Rule, but I can deal LOL

I totally recommend this book for fans of the series and for any Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance fan out there. I can't wait for the next book!

I believe in my review of book 5 in this series that it had settled down and come of age, so to speak. That opinion is only bolstered by this sixth installment in Eileen Wilks' sixth entry, "Blood Magic." This is superb writing and superb character and story arc development. This is a page-turning, action filled adventure that I hated to come to an end.
The main characters, Rule Turner and Lily Yu continue to explore and develop their understanding of their relationship with Lily as Rule's "Chosen." Lily comes to learn much more about the magical history of her grandmother, now another major character. This story involves the return of grandmother's ancient enemy, from her time as a dragon. Lily learns that her grandmother is not just old, she is ancient. Some of the developments and dangers send Lily a bit over the edge, psychologically. Rule manages to remain as steadfast and calm as his father, the Rho of Rule's clan.
This entry to the series also brings the reader deeper into the world of the Lupi, not just in the United States, but in a more world wide sense.
I agree with those readers who would classify this series as Urban Fantasy and not Paranormal Romance. It really could be considered Paranormal Police Procedural in some ways. The emphasis is definitely not on romance in any way.
I must say that with each volume, I come to learn more about and love about Cullen Seabourne and his mate, Cynna, who, while not Lupi herself is becoming one of the sacred keepers of the memories for the clan.
I just keep looking forward to each volume in the series, and I have the advantage of having come back to the series after reading the first two books and then taking a break. Now I have so many volumes to look forward to without the waiting. Great series! Highly Recommended.
