A Flight of Fancy A Novel The Daughters of Bainbridge House Volume 2 Laurie Alice Eakes 9780800734671 Books
A Flight of Fancy by Laurie Alice Eakes felt like watching a movie set in the Recency era. The vivid imagery, society details, and historical accuracy left this reader amazed at the depth of research that must have gone into writing this book. The story gently transports the reader back in time to a grand country house. The hero, Geoffrey Giles, Earl of Whittaker, inherited the responsibility to maintain a family heritage that he really doesn't want. Smitten with the intelligent "bluestocking", Cassandra Bainbridge, he presses his suit even after she suffers a horrific accident that disfigures her.Feeling far less than perfect, she assumes he won't want her and breaks their engagement throwing herself into her fancy to fly in a balloon.
Meanwhile, a villain lurks behind a series of mishaps designed to bring down Geoff, but hurts Cassandra.
This reader found A Flight of Fancy provided many hours of fascinating reading. This Laurie Alice Eakes historical romance reminds one of a George Bernard Shaw's play in that it captures the era so well.

A Flight of Fancy A Novel The Daughters of Bainbridge House Volume 2 Laurie Alice Eakes 9780800734671 Books Reviews
I read at night and love the "Happy" books of Laurie the best!!
Great Book! Had a hard time putting it down! Ordered the whole series!
This book is truly a treat for lovers of historical Christian fiction. Good storyline with strong characters that kept me guessing as much as the first book. Now, on to book three!
The rule of man over women without the love of Christ in the heart of the one ruling Is depressive! The story line was ok but no one seemed to learn anything positive.
If you like a story that keeps you wandering who is behind too many accidents.....you will like this story...I found it entertaining, and isn't that what a book is supposed to do for us? This is the second in a series, and one finds more about the misadventures of Cassandra in this book.
The author does a good job of retelling Cassandra and Geoffrey's past indiscretions mentioned in A Necessary Deception so it isn't necessary to read the first book in the series but it would be helpful.
At 21, Miss Cassandra Bainbridge is in Lord Whittaker's carriage when they meet with an accident. Miss Cassandra is sent to recover in Whittaker's country estate since her family knows her fiance, Lord Whittaker, will not be there. She quickly ends her betrothal because she feels her injuries are a punishment from God.
This book is filled with mystery, intrigue, villians and ballooning adventures. A Flight of Fancy flows nicely and contains a subtle message of forgivness towards the end. Enjoyed reading of the Luddites and the heroine's obbsession with ballooning.
I couldn't give it more than 4 because I felt that since their guilt was mentioned so many times throughout the book it just breezed upon God's forgiveness. Of course those who enjoy a subtle and less preachy books won't mind. Clean Christian Regency Romance. This is one I would read again, its an interesting weekend read.
Look forward to Honore's story in A Reluctant Courtship.
This is the second book in the series. The first is called A Necessary Deception and is about Cassandra's sister, Lydia
Cassandra is engaged and in a passionate relationship with Geoffrey. A horrible accident causes Cassandra to get severe burns on her legs. She feels that God is punishing her for her behavior and vows to leave him alone. She's hoping eventually her father will turn over her dowry money to her, because she knows no one will marry her with her ugly scars. She has her balloons and her scholarly interests. That's all she needs, right?
Geoffrey was a second son until his brother died. Now he has the position of earl, but he never really wanted it. After Cassandra's accident, he feels horrible guilt. When she pushes him away, he leaves, but when she starts to get better, she ends up at his family home. He wants to convince her he still loves her, but now he's being blackmailed into discovering things about the mill uprisings that affect his mill and others in the area. Keeping an eye on Cassandra and fulfilling his obligations to the blackmailer put his life and hers in danger.
I liked the unique aspects of the book. I don't think I've ever read a book with ballooning in it before. Sometimes I didn't understand Cassandra's reasons for pushing Geoffrey away, but I really did enjoy the book overall.
There are mentions of the people from A Necessary Deception in this book, but you can read these two out of order with no issues at all. The series finishes up with the third book, A Reluctant Courtship, and is about Lydia and Cassandra's sister, Honore.
